Florida Forensic Examiner Training - STATE/NON-PROFIT
This is a three (3) day workshop:
Thursday 10/8/09 - 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Friday 10/9/09 - 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Saturday 10/10/09 - 8:30 am to 3:30 pm

This training program instructs psychiatrists, psychologists, and other mental health professionals on how to conduct evaluations for criminal courts. The content focuses on competence to proceed (competence to stand trial) evaluations and mental state at the time of the offense (“sanity”) evaluations. Participants may request to be placed on the DCF Referral List after completing the workshop.

Participants MUST attend all three (3) days in order to receive continuing education credits. No partial credit will be given.

Objectives At the conclusion of this workshop participants can:
1 Interpret Florida laws and rules of criminal procedure relevant to forensic evaluation
2 Identify general legal principles relevant to forensic evaluation
3 Analyze the assessment techniques and procedures used in competency to proceed and mental state at the time of the offense evaluations
4 Identify the ethical obligations that apply when conducting forensic assessments
5 Apply the rules of evidence relevant to forensic evaluation and expert testimony
6 Implement effective strategies for communicating with attorneys, judges, and juries
   
Who Should Attend?
ANYONE who is interested in attending a program, regardless of topic, is welcome to attend!
If you are interested in receiving continuing education credits for a program, Miami-Dade AHEC is an approved provider for the following professions:

Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES)
Miami-Dade AHEC has been accepted by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing, Inc. to provide continuing education contact hours (CECH) in health education.  NCHEC (MEP) #—MEP2904.

Dieticians (LD & RD)
Miami-Dade AHEC has been accepted by the Florida Council of Dietetics and Nutrition to provide continuing education credits to Dieticians and Nutritionists.

Nursing (RN, LPN & ARNP)

Programs are planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials Areas and Policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education through the Florida AHEC Network.
